Welcome to my site. This is dedicated to Brody,
my dog. He is a German Shorthaired Pointer. He was born October 27 2001. He was origionally sold to
a man in New York, but he quickly found that a puppy was more than he could handle. He was then sold to another man
in New York. He was a great owner, but when he started working 12 hour days he could no longer take care of Brody.
I found an ad that he put out, and now I have Brody. The man who I got Brody from was very friendly and eager to help
me get my first gundog. I have kept in contact with him. He is an amazing artist and taxidermist.
When we first got Brody, it was a
little hard. Our other dog, Jenna, a Golden/Huskie mix that we adopted was used to being top dog, and didn't
really like him at first. There was a couple of fights in the beginning. Jenna is around 12 or 13, and she
could have been really hurt. Luckly Brody never hurt her. He let her continue her reign as the top dog.
Now they are the best of friends. They lie next to each other in the house and sometime kiss each other.
Brody sits down by Jenna when she is lying down outside, making sure that nothing bothers her.
We first worked on obedience training with Brody.
He caught on quickly, but really only listens to me. My mother complains that he is a man's dog, but she loves him none-the-less.
Brody and I hike a lot. He is a good companion, but
sometimes ranges to far. One time while we were on a hike, he pointed and flushed a Bobwhite Quail. The bird didn't
get very far becuase Brody jumped into the air and grabbed the bird in his mouth.
Right now Brody is away at Hunt Camp. He is up in
Maine with a trainer named Bob Paucek. He left for "camp" in late July. If all goes as planned he should be returning
in late August or early September. It is hard to have him away, but in the end it will be nice to have a good gundog.
The trainer is working on his whistle commands, whoa breaking, and will eventually make him steady to wing and shot. See
below to track Brody's progress at the trainers!
When Brody gets back I am hoping to hunt him on Quail
and Pheasant. I also would like to guide him at Addieville Plantation in Rhode Island. My neighbor is a member
there and says that you can make a lot of money guiding your dog.
While Brody is gone I am going to take a hunter safety
course, and hopefully get my first shotgun!
